of whims and whams.

i was thinking about the ways in which god blesses me,
and i wonder why is it so material at times.
god, i asked,
why do you bless me with material things?
with an affluent home,
a generous allowance,
a comfortable lifestyle...
why is it i get blessed with these,
which i would gladly trade for an ounce of understanding,
a milligram of freedom.

and god replied with a song.
give thanks with a grateful heart,
give thanks to the holy one,
give thanks because he's given jesus christ his son.

and now, let the weak say i am strong
let the poor say i am rich
because of what the Lord has done for us.

and i realise god,
its sometimes not how i'm blessed,
but that i AM blessed. :)
perhaps i should be more grateful for what i have,
than for what i don't.
